Gem Hunt Field Guide
You are standing on a real mining claim. Take your time, explore freely, and enjoy the experience.
Crystal Zone
Near the welcome sign
Look for: Sparkling or glassy stones — quartz
This area has the most visible crystallization. Start close to where you are.
Explore Left
Walk forward, then head left (toward SW)
Look for: Agates — banded, translucent
Some treasures are just beneath the surface — move slow and observe.
Explore Right
Walk forward, then head right (toward SE)
Look for: Jasper (reds, browns) and agates
Color is your clue. Wet a stone with a fingertip to see its true tone.
Lower Areas & Washes
Dips in the land as you move deeper
Look for: Gold and heavier material
Heavier materials settle in the lower washes.
Parking Area
Left of the sign, about ⅙ mile back toward the road
Look for: Surface agates
Worth a scan on your walk in and out.
